Since being awarded Network Rail’s Steel Sleeper contract in 2003 GMT has now manufactured and supplied over one million sleepers for the UK market. In addition to satisfying the increased demand for Network Rail’s steel sleeper requirements, GMT has also broadened its customer base to include sleepers funded by the Scottish Executive and the Welsh Assembly. These include 8,000 sleepers for the Ebbw Valley railway project with Amey Rail and with First Engineering over 30,000 standard steel sleepers and 2,000 guardrail sleepers for the Sterling Alloa Kincardine Rail Link. Also with First Engineering, sleepers for the Aberdeen Freight Relocation.
